"Meander", a 16x20 original pastel

This pastel was juried into the Texas Pastel Society's 2nd Biennial show. It was awarded an Honorable Mention by Doug Dawson, judge. There were only eight total awards in a field of well over 100 pastels, so I feel very honored. I also was just awarded Signature Member status in the Colorado Pastel Society, and look forward to more involvement in this organization in the coming year. Enjoy!

Dominguez Canyon, a 14 x11 original oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

It's been a while since I have posted! Many travels and workshops later, I am back home again, and it feels great! This is a painting I did en plein air with some artists here in western Colorado. It was a beautiful day, and a great way to spend the morning. Enjoy, and visit my website at www.barbarachurchley.com. Thanks!

"Sage in the Dobies", a 14x18 original pastel by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

The Dobies are near my town below the south end of the Grand Mesa. I now understand that the term “dobies” refers to the clay like soil – thank you to a Daily Painters of Colorado fan for solving that mystery! Even sagebrush seems very green in the Dobies!! "On the Crag Crest Trail", a 36x24 original landscape oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

Even though we are hot and DRY in Colorado this summer, this scene is common this time of year in our beautiful Colorado Rockies. The Crag Crest Trail is probably the most popular trail on the Grand Mesa and I loved painting the sunflowers facing away from me and toward the sun. I was honored when Hospice of Delta bought this for their new facility last year. FYI, I just sent out a newsletter; if you would like to receive my semiannual newsletter, please sign up on my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

"A Pitcher Full", a 9x8.5 original still life pastel by Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

Flowers are just the most fun thing to paint, or pastel in this case! Flowers are just so beautiful that I can’t help but enjoy myself when I paint them. Your turn to enjoy! FYI, I just sent out a newsletter; if you would like to receive my semiannual newsletter, please sign up on my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

"Barns in Summer", an 11x14 original landscape oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

In my workshops, I am always asked to demonstrate the palette knife. I usually take a painting this is more or less finished and re-paint it with the knife. This painting is a result of just such a demo. I made some later adjustments in my studio, and feel the piece is lively and inviting. I would love to have you on my newsletter mailing list(no more than twice a year, I promise!). Please sign up and view more of my work on my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

"Mountain Aspens", a 24x24 original oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

I have a one woman show for the month of June at Alpine Arts Center in Edwards, Colorado. I painted this piece especially for the show. I’m really excited about the show; the space is enormous, so I had a lot of fun painting some large pieces for it! Check out the arts center at www.alpineartscenter.org. I would love to have you on my newsletter mailing list(no more than twice a year, I promise!). Please sign up and view more of my work on my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

"Summer Trail", a 24x24 original oil landscape painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

I am thrilled and honored to be featured in the June issue of Southwest Art magazine! Ten plein air artists from around the country were selected for this annual plein air issue. This painting is the one I used to advertise in the magazine. The painting the editors chose for the feature article is one of my winter scenes, “Making Tracks”(look on my archived blogs). I would love to have you on my newsletter mailing list(no more than twice a year, I promise!). Please sign up(and view more of my work) on my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

"High Mountain Stream", a 36x48 original oil by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

I am having a one woman show at the Alpine Arts Center in Edwards, Colorado for the month of June. This is the largest painting for the show, and I was reminded of many adventures in the high mountain meadows in the Rocky Mountains, where the streams begin from pristine lakes under the awe inspiring high peaks. Come see for yourself at my show! To view more of my work, please visit my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.

Mountain Blues, a 6x8 original pastel by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

Wow - I've been so busy that I haven't had much time to blog! I'll do my best to change that. I just returned 3 weeks ago from a fabulous trip to Cambodia and Viet Nam, traveling by boat up the Mekong River with my sister. Since my return, I have had pastel workshops the past two weekends and they have been just fantastic. Lots of eager and talented artists with some great paintings as a result of the weekend’s work. This pastel was a demo that I painted to show the use of a cool color palette. This painting sold to one of the students. Well Worn, a 16x12 original landscape oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

I was asked to give a demo for the Montrose Visual Arts Guild. Everyone always is curious about working with a palette knife, so I decided it would be fun to demonstrate, and it was! I was a bit tired beforehand, as I had run 20 miles that morning, but as soon as I loaded the palette knife with paint, I was jazzed! I finished it at home over the following days. This painting is available; please contact me at barbara@barbarachurchley.com if you are interested in purchasing it. "Distant Mountains, a 10x8 original oil by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

After attending an intense art workshop, I decided to paint at our high altitude ranch for a few days. This painting just seemed to flow from the paintbrush! It was probably due to being let out of school!! To view more of my work, please visit my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com or e-mail me at barbara@barbarachurchley.com.
