"Sage in the Dobies", a 14x18 original pastel by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

The Dobies are near my town below the south end of the Grand Mesa. I now understand that the term “dobies” refers to the clay like soil – thank you to a Daily Painters of Colorado fan for solving that mystery! Even sagebrush seems very green in the Dobies!! "On the Crag Crest Trail", a 36x24 original landscape oil painting by western Colorado artist, Barbara Churchley

Even though we are hot and DRY in Colorado this summer, this scene is common this time of year in our beautiful Colorado Rockies. The Crag Crest Trail is probably the most popular trail on the Grand Mesa and I loved painting the sunflowers facing away from me and toward the sun. I was honored when Hospice of Delta bought this for their new facility last year. FYI, I just sent out a newsletter; if you would like to receive my semiannual newsletter, please sign up on my website at http://www.barbarachurchley.com.
